With OpenStreetMap there seem to be fairly strict rules and regulations around importing from external sources (and for a plethora of understandable and generally very good reasons), however I was wondering about the rules/guidelines that we have in OpenHistoricalMap, if any, especially when it comes to importing only parts of external data and manually verifying it by hand.
I realized I should probably bring this up, as I may have unknowingly violated said rules by importing a section of roads from tiger; and a block of buildings, both in the Port Norfolk Area of Portsmouth, Virginia. (Link(?) to said area)
While I can’t change the past, I would very much like to not do things incorrectly going forward, and I think that there’s a couple good sources of information that could be imported that, with some addition of start dates, could massively improve the overall quality of the map (at least in my area of interest)
While I don’t believe myself to have enough experience and/or skill to do any large-scale imports, there are quite a few areas around me that I want to be able to bring this information (mostly, if not exclusively from VGIN databases) into JOSM, cut it down so I have a more manageable area to work with, correct the tags, manually add more tags based on other sources (Presence (or lack thereof) on aerial imagery, real estate records, etc.), and correct any deformities in the geometry, and then upload them.
TLDR; Do we have rules regarding imports into OHM; if said rules do exist, then I broke them once (sorry!); and can I/how would I go about properly doing it in the future?
