Poll: What should the prefix-less `source` key contain?

What should be stored in the “naked” / prefix-less source=* key? The assumption is that all values not stored there would be found in source:subkey=*.

Poll background & details

  • url to map - e.g., source=https://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/detail/RUMSEY~8~1~298923~90070233, etc.
  • short name - e.g., source="Stanford, E., Library Map of London 1866", etc.
  • long name - e.g., source="Stanford, Edward; Stanford's Library Map of London and Its Suburbs. 24 Sheets. On the Scale of Six Inches to a Mile. London: Edward Stanford, 55, Charing Cross, S.W.Stanford's Library Map of London and Its Suburbs. 24 Sheets. On the Scale of Six Inches to a Mile. London: Edward Stanford, 55, Charing Cross, S.W.; 1866; David Rumsey scan", etc.
  • url to OHM project page - e.g., source=https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Open_Historical_Map/Projects/Newcastle
  • Wikicite link of some sort - e.g. source=Q692159 - note: this is suggestive only & not a proper representation of an actual wikicite indicator.
  • nothing at all - e.g., don’t use it, always require an explicit subkey to describe the associated value.

That source= example is 336char. Can’t be added at all.
Short note and wiki are more unique constructs adding valuable indication that won’t fit in other fields. It’s immediately recognizable, useful at a glance, and easily referred to. I do find the custom citation coding in the last thread eg StanfordLondon1886 that can be reusable and cross-referenced an interesting idea. That’s basically a LaTeX “citation key”. I forgot which style may allow this. The restriction in a single tag favors unstructured info, or an identifier, that can’t be broken down into other *:source:*= fields.
For referring to wiki, I’m reminded of Key:wiki:symbol - OpenStreetMap Wiki , although that can be improved. For the val, last thread mentions using template. They can be linked to in Wiki as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver_system#cite_note-BMA-1 or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver_system#cite_note-2 . For OHM wiki, at least use a section. Maybe permalink https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vancouver_system&oldid=1189425528 can be considered too, while I don’t know how to make it work easily with the wikipedia=en:Vancouver system format.
Ultimately having a citation database is a goal worth pursuing. Last thread mentions Wikidata, or perhaps at least OHM wiki data items.
Someone can make a converter to copy & paste generated *:source:*= tags. Outside OHM, I have my own Zotero library, and actively make shared ones for groups. Won’t work without it.
