I will start to define some personas as target groups for the documentation. The personas are very rough. I know that its possible to describe them much more in detail but I will start with a very first version for discussion. Please add your comments, what makes sense, what not and whats missing.
Lets just keep it simple.
Andrea is a college teacher for history. Every year she starts a project week for class 10 pupils about a topic from the history of the region. The pupils should get a good picture how the region looked and how the people lived at this time. She uses basic maps for the pupils as starting point for own researches in internet and local museums.
Andrea isn’t a tecchie or programmer. She is editing some information in a personal blog, can work with an online editor bus has no technical background. She is not familar with tools for cartographers. She has used GPS tools only for navigation in her car or Google maps. As a teacher she has a lot of things to do. Working with OHM is a task for preparing the project week and a few times a year for preparing class lessons. She told a colleague that she wil try to understand how OHM works and what she can do with OHM. She expects that she understands the very basics after one hour and can start with preparing the project afterwards…
Michael and Jasmin are pupils in Andreas class. During a project week they should look for additional information and add them to a basic map that Andrea gave them. They are looking at internet, wikipedia, go to a local museum and document the results on OHM in the map with description and fotos they made during the research. Its the first time they work with a tool like OHM and they need basic features like adding points, lins, area, a few meta data and descriptions .
They use normally Tictoc, Whatsapp and Insta and Youtube. They are not programmers or designers. The target group of the project/product are the classmates, teachers and parents.
John is a honorary member of a local history association, They prepare two exhibitons a year. John found that there are a lot of information about local history from different organizations on the web. He will try out if it is possible to generate a historic map that combines all these information and link to the different sources for more detailled information. He also will try to make a special map related to the next exhibitons they are preparing.
John has some experience with web based tools but not with OSM or OHM.
Silvia is a lecturer at university. She works for a history study program and as a freelancer for a museum. She is familiar with research historical sources and is very interested in visualization.
Martin is a professional cartographer and works as a freelancer in the museum with Silvia. He is familar with the digital tools cartographers use [I’m not familiar with them]. During last years he worked in a few projects with OSM. Silvia asked him to work together for an exhibition in six months with OHM. Martin is also experienced in infographics.
Hops this personas gives you an idea of the target groups for documentation from my point of view.
